Yobe Governor flags of renovation of 40 primary schools



Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Mai-Mala Buni has flagged off the renovation and reconstruction of 40 primary schools in part of the state.


The exercise which is to cover two local government areas of Fika and Bade, was flagged off at Gashaka town in Fika local government area.


The Governor, who was represented at the flag off on Monday by his Deputy, Hon. Idi-Barde Gubana, said United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is supporting  the state government, in achieving SDG 4 by 2020 through improved planning and by addressing some of the systematic  barriers that hinders the implementation of an effective education strategy.


He appealed to other development partners, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and other stakeholders to emulate UNICEF in the quest to improving the education sector in Yobe state.


Speaking earlier the State Commissioner, Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Mohammad Idriss said parents and communities should have more commitment towards education by enrolling children at the right age in safe and protective school environment.


Also speaking, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Musa Alabe said basic education is the most important for all sector of education. 


The Chief of Field Office, Borno Office, Mr. Clement Adams who was represented by the education supervisor with the organisation, Malam Abdullahi Bulah, said the resilience education programming for children in Northeast  Nigeria project is supported by the German Government - owned  Development Bank of Germany ( kfw) and aims at halting the decline in enrollment rate and ensure that children, especially girls are supported to stay and complete school.


He said that UNICEF is partnering with the state government to make sure that schools are not only conducive to learn, but they are havens for providing psychosocial support  with the help of well- equipped and trained teachers.
