Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, has advised owners of social event centres to continue adherence to the stipulated safety guidelines issued by the State Government to further weaken the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in the State.
She gave the advice when she featured as a guest on "Your View", a Television Continental programme, while giving detailed explanations on the Governor's approval for the safe reopening of event centres across the State.
Mrs. Akinbile-Yussuf pleaded that the intention of the State government, which is to gradually open up business activities, should not be misconstrued to avoid a possible return to restriction on social activities.
The Commissioner stated that the decision of the present administration was in the interest of the masses who should not be kept out of business for too long, calling on owners of the various event centres across the State to ensure compliance with the directives jointly issued by the State Safety Commission and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on reopening.
While restating that event centres must adhere to the 500 maximum capacity occupancy, irrespective of size of the premises, Akinbile-Yussuf maintained that all entertainment and tourism enterprises must ensure strict adherence to all COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, including the stipulated 50% capacity of people or guests at any event centre.
The Commissioner clarified that the approval of Mr. Governor does not include night clubs, stressing that such outfits are to remain closed until further directives are issued, saying "it is only Events Centres that can open for now, night clubs are not included in the approval".
According to her, all event centres must hold a valid licence of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture prior to operating as an event centre, in addition to being registered and verified by the Lagos State Safety Commission, through www.lasgsafetyreg.com, for any proposed event or exhibition.
