As part of an ongoing national endeavour to reinforce social cohesion, a team of The Kukah Centre (TKC), a non governmental organization founded to promote good governance policy options, quality leadership, research works and interfaith dialogue, on Tuesday, February, 21st 2024, visited the palace of the chairman of the chieftaincy council of Arewa community and Sarki Overall of Alimosho Local Government Lagos State, HRH Alhaji Ahmed Haruna Kuraja, during which the TKC team emphasized the importance of a renewed vigour in pursuit of true social cohesion to drive our common good as Nigerian citizens.
Leading the team from Abuja to the palace of the royalty in New London Estate Baruwa, Alimosho, Lagos, was Esrom Ajanya, the head of programs; he was joined by Asabe Ndahi, the project manager, Anna Swanta, project officer, Philip Ijamah, media officer, Bukola David, account officer and state mobilizers, Festus Ojewunmi and Sunday Olakunle.
The visitors were welcomed to the palace by the secretary of the council, Ibrahim A. Jagaba, who gave a brief tale of the chieftaincy council of Arewa community Alimosho local government, Lagos, noting that, the council which is the umbrella body of all the Seriki Hausawas in the biggest local government area in Lagos State currently had up to twenty duly installed and coronated Serikis as members and still growing.
The traditional council scribe, added that, the council was a duly registered entity across constituted authorities and government agencies including, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and it was birthed to ensure the proper and lawful coordination of Arewa community affairs in line with established norms of host communities and extant laws of the local government and the state of Lagos by extension.
The TKC head of programs, started his speech with an appreciation for the warm welcome received by his team and commended the towering sacrifices of the chieftaincy council toward the strategic role of social cohesion which in his words, represents the key objective of The Kukah Centre; continuing he said, TKC was founded by nationally acclaimed peace and justice crusader, Most Reverend, Matthew Hassan Kukah, who doubles as the convener of the National Peace Committee, that is ably chaired by General AbduSalam Abubakar (RTD) GCFR.
Referring to the traditional institution as a strategic stakeholder on the vision and mission of TKC, Esrom Ajanya called on the leadership of the chieftaincy council of Arewa community Alimosho local government Lagos State to commit to the dream and aspirations especially in Lagos toward entrenching the desired social cohesion for a truly shared prosperity and development devoid of any form of undertone.
Giving his remark at the close of the event, HRH Alhaji Ahmed Haruna Kuraja, assured the visitors of full support of the palace, adding that, issues of good governance policy options, leadership, research works and social cohesion, were some of the hallmarks, the traditional institution promote, thus, TKC was right on track; the royal father drew the curtain with a prayer for the successful execution of the TKC tasks across Lagos State and the nation at large.
